The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has requested a 19% increase in its fiscal year 2010 funding (October 2009-September 2010). In total, the agency would like to see $3.2 billion come its way. FDA hopes to use the extra cash for safer medical products ($166.4 million), new and increased user fees ($74.4 million) and new authority for follow-on biologics (products similar to existing drugs) and drug importation.
